The National Weather Service has declared this week (March 6-10) as Flood Safety Awareness Week.

On average, flooding and flash flooding are a leading cause of weather-related damage throughout Arkansas and have resulted in the loss of life of Arkansans and have caused damage to homes, businesses, and farmland throughout every part of the state. Flood Safety Awareness Week creates an important opportunity for every resident of Arkansas to prepare their homes, places of business, and communities for flooding.

The National Weather Service, the Arkansas Natural Resources Division, and the Arkansas Floodplain Management Association, along with other federal, state, local, private, and volunteer agencies, are working to increase public activities in preparing for flooding and educating individuals on where find information and how to take action now.
