Managing Floodplain Development Through NFIP Course

The Natural Resource Division of the Arkansas Department of Agriculture (ADA-NRD), with the assistance of the Arkansas Floodplain Management Association (AFMA) and the support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will sponsor Managing Floodplain Development through the National Flood Insurance Program, a four (4) day course on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and floodplain management.  The course will be held in Little Rock March 4-7, 2024. This course provides local communities with the knowledge and skills to help manage development within flood-prone areas.

The course is FREE. However, participants must furnish their own lodging, meals and transportation. The conference hotel is Hilton Garden Inn, 10914 Kanis Road, Little Rock, AR  72211.  Please call the hotel at 501-227-4800 to make your reservation.  Rooms are available at government rate and the hotel has an on-site restaurant for their guests and free high-speed and wireless internet access in all guestrooms and the lobby.  There are also other nearby hotels for your convenience.

This year, you MUST register for the class online.  You will also need a FEMA Student Identification (SID) Number.  The FEMA SID will allow you to register for the class and allow you to receive a certificate of completion for the L0273 course.  Directions for obtaining a FEMA SID (if you do not already have one) and registering for the course are provided in the attached letter.

Please note the CFM exam will be offered on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the same location.  You MUST bring your laptop (paper exam is no longer offered).  If you are interested in taking the exam, please send an email with your name and phone number to toni.brown@agriculture.arkansas.gov for more information.
