Managing Floodplain Development through the National Flood Insurance Program

The Natural Resources Division, Arkansas Department of Agriculture [formerly Arkansas Natural Resources Commission], with the assistance of the Arkansas Floodplain Management Association (AFMA) and the support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will sponsor Managing Floodplain Development through the National Flood Insurance Program, a four (4) day course on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and floodplain management.? The course will be held at the Natural Resources Division offices March 9-13, 2020. This course provides local communities with the knowledge and skills to help manage development within flood-prone areas.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
New floodplain administrators (less than 3 years experience) and those floodplain administrators who wish to take the Certified Floodplain Manager exam.

COURSE DETAILS
The course is FREE. However, participants must furnish their own lodging, meals and transportation. A list of nearby hotels is attached for your use. Those wishing to attend the course must obtain a FEMA Student Identification Number (SID) and complete the attached L273 Course Application form (FEMA Form 119-25-2).

For those interested in becoming a nationally-recognized Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM), please visit the Arkansas Floodplain Management Association website for more information at arkansasfloods.org/cfm/. A CFM exam will be given on Friday, March 14th, from 1 PM ? 4 PM, for those interested in earning the CFM certification.
