From the Chair
FEMA has announced that as of October 1st, it will no longer supply paper maps of delineated floodplains in your area. It’s part of the government effort to reduce paper consumption and printing costs.
As we understand it, each community will receive at least one set of paper maps and a CD containing electronic copies of the map files. Although you will be able to make copies of these maps, you will directly bear the cost.
AFMA is hard at work, sifting through the pros and cons of this announcement. We are planning to have a FEMA Region VI representative attend our upcoming spring workshop, our annual fall conference, or both. This representative will spend several hours going over the announcement and define what it means for your community.
Please make plans to attend our spring workshop which will be held April 16-17 at the Jacksonville Community Center. Watch your inbox for a message to arrive in the next week announcing that registration for this event is open.
You can count on AFMA to keep you abreast of the latest happenings in the world of floodplain management. We hope you will consider joining us for all of our sponsored meetings in 2009.
